The Strange Colors of Gilles Vranckx
Ithaca Fantastik has worked with visual artists every year since its inception, from local illustrator Steve Ellis, to the 2016 Altered States poster creator, Arik Roper. This year, we’ve decided to explore the lost art of movie posters.
As our retrospective delves into Italian pop and Giallo sensibilities, we will be display some vintage posters from this year’s films at Angry Mom Records. No Ithaca Fantastik would be complete without a guest artist, though, and this year we’re featuring the work of Gilles Vranckx. The style of his posters for contemporary movies owes a great deal to the Psichedeliko era of our retrospective films while also masterfully showcasing contemporary forms of illustration & graphic design.
Vranckx has created posters for such classics as Deep Red and Vertigo, but it’s his work on Bruno Forzani and Helene Cattet’s Giallo-inspired series that we’re particularly excited to share: Amer, The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears, and this year’s Let The Corpses Tan. Vranckx’s work will be featured in the Cinemapolis lobby and at Angry Mom Records on the Ithaca Commons.
Join guest of honor, Gilles Vranckx, for the opening reception at Angry Mom on Thursday, November 9 before the Suspiria screening. Come have a drink, peep some posters, and discuss the ever-changing values in art (or, you know, other stuff) with your fellow Fantastik art lovers!
